July 20 – Welcome Irreverence

We were treated to a delicious breakfast by our host Sophia Stone. Then we hit the trail for a few hours of rolling trail blanketed in soft pine duff until we met our friend Alison. The kids were excited about the reunion and enjoyed the company of an irreverent adult willing to goof off as much as they were.

We learned about mushrooms and picked some chanterelles for dinner. We gorged on ripe raspberries and listed to the ethereal call of the hermit thrush (like crystal shattering in the distance). We had lunch (playing with our food of course), and Alison hiked with us in the afternoon. Eventually she turned around and we continued north.

The late afternoon brought a walk through town with some bridge-jumping and swimming in the river. Then back to the woods for a quite place to sleep.

  1. Had some chanterelles myself the other day. Sauteed them with onions and scrambled with eggs. Excellent!

  2. What a great photo of cartwheel with the flower in her hair. Her smile says it all!

  3. i am enjoying your posts….keep safe and remain happy along the trails ahead.
    Orion always looks happy…..

  4. Coincidently brewing a raspberry wheat ale while reading this post with raspberries I picked this weekend.
