Answering questions from Mouse’s class

Nathan’s fourth grade buddies have sent along some questions. The kids’ answers are below.

Q: We want to know what you are eating. We know it has to be stuff that isn’t heavy.
A: Breakfast: Oatmeal, hot cocoa, tea, bagels fried in butter with cream cheese and jelly, granola, and freeze dried strawberries. We tried mixing hot cocoa and oatmeal, it was disgusting! Our favorite is bagels.

Lunch: pita bread with apples, peanut butter and honey, or jelly and cream cheese. Once we had tuna and salmon with avocado and parmesan cheese on sandwich thins bread (that was our favorite, except Cartwheel who prefers cream cheese and jelly).

Dinners: rice and beans, pasta with cheese sauce, pesto or red sauce, lots off dehydrated farm veggies with every meal and a healthy dose of parmesan or Romano cheese, mashed potatoes with veggies mixed in. Favorites, Pasta or mashed potatoes.

Snacks: dried fruit, goldfish, granola bats, nuts, fritos, potato chips, chocolate, candy and the occasional trail magic (gifts from people to hikers). Favorites: Cartwheel likes tart cherries, Mouse likes chocolate covered protein granola bars). Also, Mouse fit 45 goldfish in his mouth at once.

We don’t care too much if its heavy because our parents carry all the food (we just carry our stuff).

Q: Do your feet hurt yet?
A: YES!

Q: How is Orion doing? Does he sleep in the tent with you?
A: Orion loves hiking, he’s never seemed happier. He sleeps in the vestibule of the tent. He is really tired out in the evenings and conks out.

Q: Jordan wants to know if you’ve seen any critters yet.
A: We’ve seen, squirrels, salamanders, lots of birds (heard bard owls), snails, fish, hawks, eagles, mice, dogs, and smelly hikers.

  1. Thanks so much! I can’t wait to share this with the kiddos on Monday! I am printing and posting some of your photos on the hallway bulletin board and marking your locations with push pins. Speaking of smelly hikers, were you among them before you had your showers? I think that would be the hardest thing to get used to. If I were with you, I would need plenty of coffee!
