April 6

Today officially makes this our family’s longest hike. Cartwheel ponders the mountains between her and home. The kids follow dad up a steep sidetrail that dead-ends in a tree. Orion, as always, is in high spirits (while we don’t call him by a trailname because it took us long enough to get him to come with his real one, the kids have affectionately dubbed him Battering Ram because he hasn’t yet realized the extra girth his pack adds as he charges past). We managed a successful resupply where Dad hitchhiked into town, did the shopping, made it back to the trail, and made it the four miles to the campsite just an hour after Mom, Cartwheel, Mouse and Orion.
