May 14

We had a slow morning after a late night. In an unprecedented occurrence, RobinHood fell back asleep after initially getting up for the morning. Breakfasts following afternoon resupplies are always the best: fresh mango and strawberries, coffee and biscuits. Then we cruised along the ridge until lunch: avocado, cheese, carrots, sprouts and apple on e fresh bread leftover from the hostel.

But this isn’t a food blog, it’s a hiking blog. Twelve Percent caught us from behind, then hiked with us to the Captain’s place, where we all got to ride the zip line across the river to meet the Captain and tent in his yard for the night. Rumor has it that the rains will come tomorrow.

  1. It takes a hiker to know that eventually, a long-distance hiking blog will eventually become a food blog. It could also become a forum for outdoor bathroom habits, but that would have to come at least after mile 700…

  2. I really liked my brief stop at The Captain’s Place last year. The bosun’s chair thingy was a hoot. Thoroughly enjoying your journal.

  3. Pretty cool u-tube video of the zip line posted by a hiker named Frenchy if you Google “captains place Appalachian Trail.”

  4. Zip lining across the stream in a bosun’s chair definitely looks like more fun than my introduction to the bosun’s chair, which involved chipping paint off the side of a Navy destroyer in the hot sun.

  5. Omg. U all r inspirational. Fabulous pics. Continue to take in this experience. I’m in awe. With love.

  6. How did you get Orion across? Did he swim or did you carry him on the zip line?

  7. Sonja says “Hi! And I’m glad we met you!”

  8. Don’t forget to add that we had an F-15 do a stunning flyover; banked sharply not 200 feet overhead- estimated at 300mph…so close we could see the pilots helmet.

  9. Hi there excellent website! Does running a blog like this take a great deal of work?
I have absolutely no expertise in computer programming however I was hoping to start my own blog in the near future.

Anyhow, should you have any ideas or tips for new blog
owners please share. I understand this is off topic however I simply wanted to ask.
    Kudos!
